Modern Rustic Issue #11 Featuring Our Kiondo Baskets

We have been featured in Country Living Modern Rustic Issue #11 or should I say, our lovely Kiondo Baskets have been featured in their latest issue. Mifuko, who create the Kiondo Baskets was founded in 2009 by two Finnish designers Minna and Mari. At the time Minna lived in Kenya with her family and Mari was living in Finland, together they developed the idea of a design company operating between Finland and Kenya – combining Kenyan traditional handcraft techniques with Finnish design language, and that is how Mifuko’s story began. The Kiondo baskets are created by handweaving sisal and food grade plastic and the making of these baskets is a traditional skill passed down through the generations in Kenya. Products 5_pdf_3 copy 2 These very useful storage baskets come in all different sizes and can be used for everything from storing toys to housing herb plants...having bought a few of these myself we were not surprised that Modern Rustic asked to feature them. We are big fans of Modern Rustic and having had a few of our products featured in previous issues, we thought, why not shout about this time round. Modern Rustic is a beautiful magazine that includes some striking houses, products and artisan profiles. If you are into the modern rustic look or love learning about makers using traditional methods in new and exciting ways then you will enjoy this publication. It has been one I buy and keep and I often look at past issues when embarking on a new project at home or if I am searching for some new ideas for a project. To read more about our Kiondo baskets and how they are made then head to Our Maker section and read our interview with the Finnish founders of Mifuko,  Mari Martikainen & Minna Impio.
