Stovetop Espresso Maker by Freud

£115.00 - Sold Out

Designed in England, the stainless steel Stovetop Espresso Maker is simple and yet striking. Handmade and based on the Italian Moka Pot system, it makes great tasting coffee. Simply unscrew the base and remove the steel funnel, fill the base with water and place the steel funnel back into place before adding ground coffee. Once screwed back together heat the coffee maker on the hob (gas or electric) until the water has boiled and the stovetop has finished percolating. The recommended time is 10-15 minutes at a medium heat. Stainless steel takes longer to heat up but also longer to cool down, thereby keeping the coffee hot for longer. Once ready the beautiful wooden handle and drip free spout will allow you to pour your coffee in style. The handle was designed to create an easy pouring mechanism but the wood also makes a lovely contrast to the stainless steel, further enhancing the aesthetics of this elegant stovetop espresso maker. With a volume of 250ml, it will make 4 espressos or enough for two cups. Part of our Tableware collection, the stovetop coffee maker allows you to drink some decent coffee rather than feeling you have to resort to instant when just making coffee for one or two. You can read more about the Freud Stovetop, Teaballs, Cafetieres and other products in this Journal post about the designer David Freud.

Inspired by stories of his father’s inter-war life spent in the coffee houses of Central Europe, where coffee, beer, culture and conversation flowed hand in hand, David Freud founded FREUD design and café-bars in 1986. With the aim of bringing the bustle and chatter of his father’s treasured Viennese hang-outs to London and designing stunning table and glassware products for these fantastic café-bars.

Having graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art in 1973, David’s passion for the ideas behind the way things look carries through into every aspect of FREUD, his preoccupation with the virtues of lasting design being seen not only in the beautiful table and glassware products created by the design house, but also in the FREUD buildings, which house the enterprise.
