This unique wooden serving board has a beautiful rich colour and characterful grain. The Elm board has knots, traces of spalting and shows burr features with swirls and pippy elements. It is a really stunning piece of wood. One side and end of the board has been left with the wood's natural edge and shape and so includes a very tactile undulating surface.
This fantastic wooden board can be used as a serving board upon which bread, pastries, canapés, snacks or other small bites can be served. The board can also be used on a table as a decorative feature upon which you can put candles, salt and pepper grinders, condiments or serving bowls, dishes and pans. Alternatively, it can be used as a chopping board provided you are okay with the fact the surface will get marked by knives.
This one-off Elm Board has been finely sanded to a smooth finish and then coated in a food-safe Danish Oil, made up predominantly of Tung Oil, to help protect the wood. The wooden board measures 40cm in length, 22cm in width and 2.5cm in height.
A lovely bit of handmade British craftsmanship, the board will make a nice feature in any home and will also make a great gift. The board was handcrafted by myself (Alastair Matthews) in my workshop near Saffron Walden in Essex.
