Design Inspiration: Collage House by Jonathan Tuckey

Our design inspiration this week comes in the form of The Collage House by Jonathan Tuckey Design. Originally a steel fabrication workshop, the Collage House in Kilburn, London, is an exciting example of combining the old with the new. To create architecture and interiors which retain the history of an existing structure whilst adding a new dimension and use is no easy task. The Collage House was the creation of design firm, Jonathan Tuckey Design, and the goal was to create a home for Jonathan Tuckey himself. The rest of the house was built around a garden courtyard which was created by demolishing an original existing building. The challenge was to create a home from a 19th century industrial use building, retaining, where possible, the features that gave the original building its history and character but at the same time creating a home that was inviting and contemporary. Interestingly the firm create physical models of the sites and building they are working with which allows the client to see the space in 3D terms, often something clients relish as sometimes visualising architects drawings can be hard.
