Design Inspiration: For The Love Of Grey

Let's face it, February can feel a little gloomy and miserable here in the UK. Do not get me wrong, I love bright sunny cold days but the endless grey that we have this time of year can make you feel, well, just a little bit blah... In this weeks Design inspiration journal post, I did think we should jet off to warmer climes and visit a beautiful residence somewhere where the sun was most definitely shining but thinking about the grey of the skies got me thinking about grey as a colour. More specifically it got me thinking about its popularity as a colour to paint interiors. While some may say that grey has had its time in the interior design World hall of fame, it does still remain a very popular colour to decorate with. Grey as a colour choice can be so varied and create so many different feelings in a space. A lot can depend on the shade used, the light in the room and how it is used in conjunction with other furnishings. Grey remains a colour that can offer so much and while I may be attempting to steer away from painting our new house all grey, I have to admit this colour has a strong pull that sometimes finds me back wondering why I am cheating on it... Kate Watson-Smyth, of Mad About The House, whose blog we can't get enough off, is a firm advocate of grey and gets it so right in her book, 'Shades of Grey', when she describes Grey as the most elegant of neutrals. So this week, while we may be hating the grey outside we have decided to sing it's praises in our Design Inspiration post and bring you some inspirational grey interiors that you might just love to look at this February.
